Seniors and the Loss of Pets

You can’t compare how the loss of a pet affects one person versus another. The life experience, the involvement of family, the joys and challenges all serve to create a unique and irreplaceable bond between you and your pet.

That said, in our experience, the death of a beloved pet can be particularly devastating to seniors. Their living situation, social circumstances, and access (or lack thereof) to family support networks often compound the effect of the loss.

You may find comfort in reading “Seniors and the Loss of a Beloved Pet,” our guide for helping seniors cope with pet death. If you’re a senior who’s been through or about to go through such a loss, we hope the information you find gives you the gift of empathy.

And if you’re someone who knows a senior in this situation, please, share this as you accompany them on the road to emotional recovery.
